For outdoor events, weddings, festivals seasonality in Norfolk and Suffolk, 2026 was one of the warmest and driest seasons in recent memory. Suffolk had just 33% of its average spring rainfall, and both counties ran 3.2°C above average in June. If you’re planning a wedding, festival or outdoor event in East Anglia, the lesson is simple: plan your cold storage and drinks chilling for heat, and book it early.

Outdoor events, weddings, festivals seasonality: what happened in 2026?
The weather is the headline. The Met Office’s county figures show a very dry spring across our area, followed by a hot June. Norfolk recorded a mean of 18.1°C and Suffolk 18.3°C, both 3.2°C above average, according to the Met Office June 2026 county breakdown.
The dry spell carried on into festival season. The Met Office expected predominantly dry conditions for Latitude at Henham Park in Suffolk, as covered in its festival forecast on settled weather continuing. For Houghton Festival in Norfolk in early August, it forecast some of the driest festival conditions in the country (see the festival forecast on sunshine for many).
What a hot, dry season means for cold storage at Norfolk and Suffolk events
Dry ground and sunshine are good news for marquees, field parking and guests. They’re harder on food and drink. Fridges have to work harder on warm days, and caterers, bar teams and couples soon find that a few domestic fridges and some cool boxes aren’t enough.
From what we saw this year, here are the practical points to plan for:
- Allow more chilled space than you think you need. On hot days guests drink more, and drinks restocked through the day need somewhere cold to wait.
- Keep food and drink separate. A refrigerated trailer behind the scenes handles catering stock. A glass-fronted display fridge or bottle cooler at the bar keeps service quick.
- Think about frozen goods. Ice, ice cream and frozen desserts don’t last long in a heatwave. Our small and medium chest freezers are an easy addition.
- Book early. When a run of warm weekends lines up with wedding and festival dates, the busiest dates go first.
Display fridges, bottle coolers and freezers alongside your trailer
Many events don’t need just one thing. Alongside our refrigerated trailers we hire out glass-fronted display fridges, bottle coolers and chest freezers. These are separate units, not trailers, and we deliver them alongside a trailer or on their own. All of them run from a standard 240V socket, so there’s no special installation and no engineer needed.
- Double-door display fridge: up to 1,584 x 330ml cans, 1,008 x 500ml cans, or 720 bottles, with a lit interior and adjustable shelving.
- Upright single-door bottle fridge: up to 441 x 330ml cans, 308 x 500ml cans, 272 x 330ml bottles or 238 x 500ml bottles.
- Back bar bottle cooler: a counter-height unit with twin sliding glass doors, holding up to 276 x 330ml cans, 188 x 500ml cans, or 143 bottles.
- Chest freezers: available in small and medium sizes.
You can see the full range on our display fridge and chest freezer hire page. We deliver and collect everything across Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and the wider East Anglia region from our depot at Fundenhall near Norwich.
Licensing and weddings law: what’s current
If you’re running a smaller event with a bar, Temporary Event Notices (TENs) still apply nationally. A TEN covers events with fewer than 500 people at all times, staff included, lasting no more than 168 hours (7 days). A single premises can apply for up to 20 TENs a year, as long as the total event length is no more than 26 days.
For couples, civil ceremonies can take place fully outdoors within the boundary of approved premises, provided the superintendent registrar confirms the location is seemly and dignified. The government also consulted on reforming weddings law in England and Wales. Its Tying the Knot consultation ran from 16 July to 24 September 2026. The government’s evidence suggests around 1,000 independent celebrants deliver roughly 10,000 non-legally-binding ceremonies a year in England and Wales, and many of those happen at outdoor and marquee venues.
On local government, the government announced on 25 March 2026 that it would create three unitary councils in Norfolk and three in Suffolk, then withdrew those decisions on 7 September 2026. If you need a licence or notice, check the current arrangements with your local council.
